My favorite Thai place in Austin! The prices are very reasonable. Try the Street Pad Thai instead of the regular Pad Thai for a sauce that is less "tangy sour" (tamarind) and more savory (salty-sweet, more Chinese-style. Both are great, but the extra dollar for the street pad Thai really levels up the complexity of the flavor.
I came in here Sunday night at 9pm, needing a snack. Everything else on Burnet was closed / closing at that time. I ordered Pad Ga-Tiam & Chicken Satay. The Pad Ga-Tiam was really good, but the star was the satay. Excellent peanut sauce and most surprisingly, the chicken was perfectly cooked at not dried out.
I love Sap's! Wonderful staff, wonderful food. The atmosphere inside is so relaxed - they have beautiful umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and a waterfall that's so soothing - even if there's a wait for your food (service is pretty quick), you won't mind it one bit!...Sap's is an Austin institution and well deserving of the title.
Wow, if you have not tried the Salmon Hormuk you are missing something. Its like a casserole with Salmon in it, very spicy but very good, it will fill you up on a cold day. I had it again just this past week and it is one of my favorites. Try it, but you may want a Thai Iced Tea to help cut the heat.
Sap's and Madame Mam's is always good. You cannot get any better authentic Thai food than this. Been going here for years when they only had 1 location, now there's multiples, still only within Austin, TX. Still gotta travel 3-4 hours for it, but it's worth it. Every trip to Austin is a trip to Sap's. The food is so consistent every time, I got no complaints here...
